Beyond Production: It’s Not a RAS Farm, It’s a Seafood Business will explore why commercial thinking should be part of the planning process for any aquaculture farm from the beginning. Speaker Joe Klaus will use RAS shrimp operations to illustrate the concepts he plans to present. Klaus has spent more than 40 years working across all sectors of the food industry, with 26 years dedicated to helping companies better market seafood. He brings a unique perspective on what limits the domestic marketplace from reaching its full potential. These webinars are ideal for aquaculture farms and entrepreneurs, feed mill operators, investors, researchers, and economic development directors. Register for Oct. 15! Sign Up Now Mark your calendars for the other 2 webinars now, and keep an eye on your email for registration information following the conclusion of Part 1 on October 15: November 12, 2:30 p.m. CST — Beyond the Market: Understanding What the Market Actually Buys will examine customers, market channels, product forms, convenience, and the role of processing in creating value December 10, 2:30 p.m. CST — Beyond the Harvest: Integrating Commercial Thinking into Aquaculture Planning brings all concepts of the series together with practical ideas for industry players, to help strengthen their path toward commercial success SOY FEED RESEARCH ABOUT RAINBOW TROUT   Being able to more quickly and efficiently assess how soy affects rainbow trout digestion would better help with proper formulation of soybean-based feed. That was the goal of an SAA-funded study led by Jake Bledsoe, Ph.D., Aquaculture Extension Specialist with University of Idaho’s Aquaculture Research Institute.   Soy-derived ingredients can cause inflammatory responses in the distal intestine of salmonids like trout, resulting in soybean meal-induced enteritis, or SBMIE. Because soy is a nutritious and affordable protein source for producers, identifying severe SMBIE in fish is important so the diet can be adjusted.   Studying and scoring samples for SBMIE is time-consuming and requires highly trained specialists. Bledsoe is working on a way to use machine-learning models with AI to accurately and more quickly scan samples.   Want the study? Download Here WHERE WILL THE GROWING SHRIMP SUPPLY GO? As shrimp supply expands worldwide and consumption seems to stall, experts say simply producing more may no longer be enough.
